I thought long and hard and even returned my first copy of the 50L before finally leaning to appreciate this lens. In reality its not all that different from the results I was getting with the 50 1.4, which is much cheaper and also very good but I do feel the 50L gives a special look to photos that is hard to achieve with any other 50mm lens.
Many reviews claim it's not very sharp or that the focus shifts but after learning to use it I am very happy to have one and now its probably my most used lens.
All shot with a Canon 5D Mark 2 + 50 1.2 L. No flash and minimal post.
